TCU Place

The word "Convocation" arises from the Latin "con" meaning "together" and "vocare" meaning "to call." The Convocation ceremony is a calling together of new graduates!

General Information

Are you ready to graduate?  If so, there are a few things you need to do to make sure your convocation goes smoothly:

  • Apply to Graduate through PAWS [Deadlines: March 31st (Spring) August 31 (Fall)]

If you have applied:

  • Make sure we have your current mailing address- let us know of any changes that occured after you applied to graduate
  • Ensure we have your full legal name on file
    • you can check you name in PAWS in 'My Contact Information' located under your name on the top right.
    • May 1, 2014 is the deadline to submit any name changes for Convocation purposes

Are you attending convocation?  If so, you must:

  • Get your Tickets
  • Rent a gown
  • Arrange for special accomodations if you or one of your guests has a disability

Graduation Powwow

If you are Aboriginal (Indian, Metis or Inuit), we would like to recognize your achievement and honour you at the May 28th, 2014 Graduation Powwow.  You have the opportunity to take part in the powwow's grand entry and/or have your name listed in the powwow's program.  Register at the Graduation Powwow website.

Release of Information

Under s.23(2)(h) of the The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act,  the University of Saskatchewan has the authority to publish and release information pertaining to the degrees, certificates or diplomas received by individuals.

If you are concerned about your name being published in the Convocation program, the StarPhoenix graduation section, college websites or publications, etc., please formally submit your reasons why to the University Registrar, E34-105 Administration Place, Saskatoon, SK,  S7N 5A2.

Generally, names will only be removed for reasons related to the personal safety of the individual.

Photography

The Convocation Office will be coordinating graduation photography through Grad Images Photography.  A photo will be taken of you when you recieve your degree at convocation.  Proofs will be sent to your PAWS account email a few weeks after convocation, where you will have the opportunity to purchase your photos.

Tickets

Spring 2014 Tickets

Tickets are required to attend the ceremony.  Students can order a maximum of four guest tickets beginning on April 10, 2014 through PAWS.  The deadline to order your tickets is Thursday May 15th at 4:30pm. 

Tickets must be ordered through your Convocation Information channel in PAWS.

If you have difficulties ordering your tickets, contact us at convocation@usask.ca.

Extra Tickets

If you require more than four guest tickets, extra tickets may be available for your ceremony on a first come first serve basis.  The extra ticket release will begin on Tuesday May 20th at 9:00am.  Extra tickets will be ordered through PAWS as well.

Please remember to print your tickets and bring them with you to TCU!

Note: Each ticket will be scanned at TCU and is only valid for one entrance.

All gowns must be returned no later than 5:30pm on Friday June 6, 2014 at TCU Place.

Graduands who attend the Convocation ceremony are required to wear proper academic dress. Graduands must obtain the hood for the degree they are receiving, not for a degree they may already hold. Be sure to obtain a gown and hood prior to the time of assembly. Gowns and hoods are available on a non-refundable rental basis.

  • Boutonnieres and corsages may not be worn on the academic dress.
  • Flowers are not suitable for the academic dress or the ceremony and should be held in reserve for celebrations after the ceremony.
  • It is recommended that no money or valuables be brought to the assembly area.
  • Purses, bags, etc. are not to be carried during the ceremony. If brought to the assembly area, they will be collected by a staff member and taken backstage to a dressing room at TCU Place.
  • Belongings left in the assembly area must be retrieved from a backstage dressing room immediately after the ceremony or they will be taken to the “lost and found” at TCU Place.
