The word "Convocation" arises from the Latin "con" meaning "together" and "vocare" meaning "to call." The Convocation ceremony is a calling together of new graduates!

Students

Are you ready to graduate?  If so, there are a few things you need to do to make sure your convocation goes smoothly:
  • Apply to Graduate:
    1) Log into 
    2) Select the academics tab
    3) Apply to graduate through the graduation channel

    Deadline to apply for Fall Convocation is August 31, 2013
  • Make sure we have your current mailing address- let us know of any changes that occur after you have applied to graduate 
  • Ensure we have your full legal name on file - you can check you name on  in the Address icon at the top right corner

* Please note that graduate studies students with a major in Anatomy and Cell Biology, Bichemistry, Microbiology, Physiology and Toxicology will graduate in the afternoon ceremony.

Faculty/Staff

Members of the faculty who attend the Convocation exercises are encouraged to sit on the platform rather than the general theatre seating. Invited guests will be seated in the general theatre seating.

Faculty sitting on stage are asked to assemble in the Holding Room which is located backstage of TCU Place. The Holding Room should be accessed by entering the backstage door on the south side of the building. Once you enter the backstage door you should proceed up the first flight of stairs and turn right. Signs will be posted. From the Holding Room, you will be escorted to the lobby area to form a receiving line where you will be able to watch the procession of your students as they file into the theatre. You will then be directed to a seat on the raised platform.

For the morning ceremony, please assemble no later than 8:20 a.m. and no later than 1:20 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.

Ceremony Tickets for Faculty

All faculty members are invited to order tickets to attend Fall Convocation.  Faculty members who attend convocation exercises are encouraged to sit on the platform rather than the general theatre seating.  Faculty members may also invite one guest.  Invited platform party guests and faculty that choose to sit in the general seating, will be seated behind the graduates in a reserved seating area.

Academic Regalia

Faculty who choose to sit on the platform must wear academic regalia. Faculty who do not have academic costume may rent one online or at TCU Place. Academic regalia must be returned at TCU Place following the Convocation ceremonies as they must be shipped back to the supplier.

All gowns must be returned no later than 5:30pm on October 26, 2013.

New PhD Robes: All faculty who currently own the original scarlet and blue gown are more than welcome to continue wearing this robe.  If you are interested in purchasing a new robe, please contact Mary from Gaspard and Sons at 1.888.949.5730.  The new gown will cost $671.00 + GST and Shipping.  If you choose to purchase a new robe, you may do so by using your APEF fund.

Please note it is recommended that the individuals in the academic procession wear the robes and hoods pertaining to the academic degrees and institution from which they have been received.
