The word "Convocation" arises from the Latin "con" meaning "together" and "vocare" meaning "to call." The Convocation ceremony is a calling together of new graduates!

For students

Are you ready to graduate?  If so, there are a few things you need to do to make sure your convocation goes smoothly:
  • The deadline to apply for Spring Convocation has now passed.

If you have applied:

  • Make sure we have your current mailing address- let us know of any changes that occured after you applied to graduate
  • Ensure we have your full legal name on file - you can check you name on PAWS in the address icon in the top right corner.

Are you attending convocation?  If so, you must:

  • Get your  Tickets
  •  Rent a gown
  • Arrange for special accomodations if you or one of your guests has a disability
  • Arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of your ceremony

If you are Aboriginal (Indian, Metis or Inuit), we would like to recognize your achievement and honour you at the May 29th Graduation Powwow.  You have the opportunity to take part in the powwow's grand entry and/or have your name listed in the powwow's program.  Register at the Graduation Powwow website.

Orators

Volunteer orators step up to the microphone for the first time at the University of Saskatchewan

Thirteen orators have been selected through an audition process to read out the names of degree recipients as they receive their parchments. The recruits hail from all parts of campus and perform a wide range of roles throughout the U of S, but all are gifted with resonant voices, fine pronunciation skills and share a great attention to detail.

A special thank you to the Department of Drama and Natasha Martina for their efforts in making this process a success. 

Dr. Alec Aitken
B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Aitken is a Professor and Head, Department of Geography and Planning in the College of Arts and Science. He has been at the University for 21 years and was a Master Teacher Award recipient in 2003.

Dr. Geraldine Balzer
B.A., B.Ed, M.A., Ph.D.
Dr. Balzer is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education, Curriculum Studies and has been at the University for six years.

Mark C. Behrend
B.Comm.
Mark is the Project Manager for Distance Education and Narrowcasting in Media Access and Production (eMAP). He has been on campus for nine years and is currently completing his M. Ed. in Educational Technology and Design.

Dr. Ryan Brook
B.Sc., M.N.R.M., Ph.D.
Dr. Brook has been on campus for three years and is an Assistant Professor in the Indigenous Land Management Institute and the Department of Animal and Poultry Science.

Catherine R. Coghlin
MLT
Catherine has been on campus for 26 years and is a Technician in the Veterinary Physiology Teaching Laboratory. She has also been a mentor for high school students in the Academic Placement Program with the Saskatoon Public Board for 10 years.

Dr. Richard M. Devon
B.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Devon is a Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, College of Medicine, having spent 32 years on campus and is also a Member of the Cameco MS and Neuroscience Research Center.

Shirley Haines
B.A., B. Ed., M. Ed. (Admin.)
Shirley is a member of Senate and was a lecturer in the College of Education, Centre for School‑based Experiences and Department of Curriculum Studies for 11 years. She was also a teacher in the Saskatoon public school system, retiring in 1993.

Dr. Kathleen James-Cavan
B.A., B.Ed., M.A., Ph.D.
Dr. James-Cavan has been on campus for 21 years and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of English.

Ms. Brooke Klassen
B.Comm., M.B.A.
Brooke has been at the University of Saskatchewan for 10 years and is the Director of the Bachelor of Commerce Program and Lecturer at the Edwards School of Business.

Wendy Klingenberg
Wendy has been on campus for more than 10 years and is currently the Assistant Registrar, Awards and Financial Aid in Student and Enrolment Services Division.

Dave Muench
B.Ed.
Dave has been on campus for 16 years, and is the Manager, Student Services, in the Edwards School of Business.

Mrs. Constance Rosowsky
B.A., B. Ed., M. Ed.
Constance was a classroom teacher and school principal in Kamsack, Saskatchewan for close to 30 years and now joins us on campus as a Sessional Lecturer in the College of Education.

Candace Wasacase-Lafferty
B.A.
Candace is the Director, First Nation and Métis Engagement, having spent 12 years on campus. Recently, Candace was appointed to the position of Chair of Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
