Working On Campus

Looking for work on campus?  Throughout the year, many departments, colleges, schools, faculties, research centres, laboratories, the Royal University Hospital, Innovation Place tenants, and student services hire students.  Working on campus in between or after classes is a great way to become involved with your campus. It is an excellent way to supplement your income while you are studying in the school terms or during the summer months.  Campus positions often offer you flexible scheduling in order to make academics your first priority.  Because you are already on campus, there are no additional work related costs in time or money as you don’t have to travel to work. These positions are located where you are.  Working on campus allows you to build communication and interpersonal skills. Depending on the position, you also have the opportunity to gain technical skills.

Professors are good contacts regarding employment as many hire Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants and Graders/Markers.  If you are interested in working for a professor, speak with him/her directly to enquire about any opportunities that they might be hiring for, either during the school year or for the summer months. Private stores, businesses and restaurants on-campus are other potential sources of employment. If you're interested in finding out more about their positions, contact them directly.

Finding work on campus is no different than job searching for any other position.  Some positions will be posted and some will not.  Seek out opportunities that are of interest to you.  Whatever the experience, it will always look great on a resume as you work towards developing your career path.
