Money Matters

Money and proper budgeting are an important part of planning any trip abroad. There are many sources of financial support available to U of S students wishing to go abroad. The information contained here will help you plan well for your sojourn abroad and make your experience financially affordable.

U of S Funding:

Appel Global Citizenship Award (open to all students)

This award recognizes a student within the University of Saskatchewan who exemplifies the spirit of global citizenship.

Shannon Dyck   Congratulations to the 2012 Appel Global Citizenship Award winner, Shannon Dyck.

International Research Office (open to graduate students)

The International Research Office helps fund various research projects abroad. Students are encouraged to check the International Research Office website for funding for their studies abroad.

Dr. Gerhard Herzberg International Conference Travel Award (open to graduate students)

Dr. Gerhard Herzberg International Conference Travel Award is available to graduate students. Students must be presenting a paper at an international scientific conference.

University of Saskatchewan Student Travel Award (open to all students)

For undergraduate students who will be participating in an academic conference, competition or other formal academic activities. Funding is available for individuals and groups.

College Specific Funding

Agriculture & Bioresources
  • Gillian Hughes Memorial Travel Fellowship (open to undergraduate students): Open to third of fourth year full-time students in the B.S.A. program who have a minimum average of 75% on the most recent 60 credit units and who have been accepted to study abroad in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or Europe.
Arts & Science
College of Medicine
  • Conference Travel Fund (open to graduate students): For full-time Masters and Doctoral Grad students and Post-Doctoral Fellows. Must be presenting a paper or poster at a national or international conference or scientific workshop.
  • Toxicology Graduate Student Association Travel Award (open to graduate students): For all students in the Toxicology Graduate Program. Preference will be given to those who have not attended out of province conferences during their current degree program. A student can only receive this award once.
  • The H.B (Bruno) Schiefer Student Travel Award (open to graduate students): For students who are registered full-time with the College of Graduate Studies and Research. Must be presenting research findings from the U of S toxicology grad work at scientific meetings.
  • Master of Physical Therapy Student Clinical Placement Travel Grant (open to graduate students): To assist students with clinical courses outside of Saskatoon.
College of Graduate Studies and Research
  • CGSR Travel Award (open to graduate students): Financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students to enable them to participate in academic-related conferences, academic competitions and other formal academic activities.

Scholarships and Student Loans

Generally, exchange students can continue to receive and/or apply for scholarships. Please be sure to check the specific terms of your current scholarship to ensure that you are in compliance. Student loans may be available to students going abroad.
