If you need to arrange a classroom change due to accessibility issues or a temporary disability, e-mail the following information to dss@usask.ca:

  • Your name, student number, contact phone number
  • Course(s) name, number, section
  • Instructor
  • Your needs

Students with accessibility issues

  • Mobility issues (Wheelchair, scooter, walker, sticks, visual impairment)
  • Hearing impairment

Do check out your classroom locations as soon as they are published. It is important that you do this as soon as possible. If the classroom is inaccessible the first step is to find out the locations of other sections of the course, and transfer to a section that is accessible. If none are, DSS can arrange for a room change prior to the start of the term. This will prevent any negative impact on the other students as well as the instructor.

DSS will arrange a change in your classroom if

  • you have back-to-back classes that are not offered at another time and are located too far apart
  • you are unable to view the instructor and/or blackboard
  • need the classroom to be located close to where you access campus or park your car
  • classroom would be inaccessible during the winter months
  • classroom is located in a building on the other side of Campus Drive from the main campus (for example, Health Sciences, St Thomas More, Education) and crossing would be treacherous after the snow falls
  • you would benefit from a classroom equipped with FM systems so professors use cordless mics

We can also arrange for a different chair and/or table if required. A room change might not be necessary.

Students with temporary disabilities

If the disability affects your mobility and you find there is not enough time to move between classes or your classroom is inaccessible, you will need to register with DSS as soon as possible. Changing classrooms mid-term can be very difficult:

  • your instructor may have instructional limitations (audiovisual requirements)
  • another class may need to be moved to accommodate your class
