Message from the dean
To recognize and celebrate the College of Arts and Science fall 2020 graduates, Dr. Peta Bonham-Smith (PhD) recorded the graduation video above. A written version of her address is below.
Congratulations on graduating this fall from the University of Saskatchewan!
It took strength, dedication and hard work to reach this point. You faced extra challenges while completing your degree during the current COVID-19 pandemic, but you persevered and you succeeded—well done!
I am proud of you, just as your professors, your family and your friends are proud of you.
I know that graduating during a pandemic is not what you had hoped for, and that the future will bring still more uncertainty for you. But as graduates of the College of Arts and Science, you can be confident that you have what it takes to face that uncertainty.
You have the skills you need to adapt to the changes that are sure to come. You have a foundation of knowledge you can build upon to attain jobs and opportunities you haven’t yet imagined. And you have the perspective necessary to act with compassion when you see others struggling.
Be kind out there. Help others when you can, because our future depends on cooperation and collaboration.
Be kind to yourself, as well. You will make mistakes, but you will learn from them and be better for them.
Remember that you are part of a community: a community of Arts and Science alumni throughout the world who share a bond with you and want to see you succeed. And you can take strength from the knowledge that all of us on campus will be cheering you on.
Whatever you choose to do and wherever you choose to go, you will always have a home in the College of Arts and Science.
