Using the various drums and percussion instruments participants will be invited to explore the instruments and then choose one. Meghan, our group leader, will assist in giving a brief introduction to the instruments and group plan. Introductory rhytms and beats will be explored, and participants will be encouraged to improvise and/or respectfully play their instrument however they desire. “You can’t do it wrong” is the motto of the group!

About the instructor:

Meghan Bowman

Meghan has been using music as a therapeutic modality in her own life since childhood. She currently works as an accredited music therapist. Meghan is pursuing a Masters of Educational Psychology degree, with the hopes of incorporating more verbal processing and counselling into her practice. Meghan recognizes that often, words are not necessary to process difficult experiences, and that’s when music speaks.

'Roads to Wellness' was created by the Student Wellness Centre to offer opportunities for wellness and healing to university students and staff in group experiences facilitated by Mental Health Clinicians, Educators, and Counsellors who offer a variety of expressive and somatic techniques. We aim to expand our reach so that students and/or staff/faculty have an experiential gathering time, feel a sense of connection and community, and have broader access to mental wellness services. Guided activities, including expressive making, music, and movement are the core of our programming. Please join us to... EXPERIENCE. CONNECT. CREATE.
