Bursaries

October 1st is the deadline to apply for most bursaries offered by the university. Bursaries are usually given to students in financial need, though some bursaries may have additional criteria. Recipients will be notified by early February.

Scholarships

June 1st is the deadline for a large number of scholarships on campus. Scholarships are normally granted for academic achievement or leadership experiences. Recipients will be notified by the first day of classes.

Cathy Watts Memorial Scholarship

Value: $1,500
Number offered: 1
Eligibility: Open to all continuing students who are enrolled in a degree or non-degree program in any discipline at the University of Saskatchewan, whether at an undergraduate or graduate level level, and who will be at least in their second year of post-secondary studies.

To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Provide a statement of no more than one page (single-spaced, 12 point font, and with 1” margins) to demonstrate their commitment to the promotion of cycling, walking, or other forms of active transportation through their work, community involvement and advocacy, research, or studies.
  • Provide two letters of reference attesting to this commitment a) in relation to academic or employment-related research or studies or b) in relation to one or more organisations that have an express mandate to promote active transportation or related infrastructure. Examples include, but are not limited to: Saskatoon Cycles, Walking Saskatoon, Saskatoon Trail Alliance, Saskatchewan Trail Association, Bike Regina, the Meewasin Valley Authority, and similar organizations in other jurisdictions. Other relevant organizations would include municipal advisory groups for active transportation, as well as campus or school groups that promote active transportation.
  • Preference shall be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their statement and letters of reference how their community advocacy, research or studies will improve conditions for groups who are underrepresented as users of active transportation.
  • Candidates shall be in good academic standing with a minimum average of 65% in the previous academic year.
Selection criteria: Selection will be based on the merits of the submitted statement.
