About

CLIC is a Canada-wide study abroad initiative that provides innovative and heavily subsidized learning opportunities for Canadian students in China.

U of S students can participate in CLIC through Student Exchange at certain Chinese partner institutions or by taking part in one of the summer courses offered through other Canadian CLIC member institutions.

Funding

Eligible U of S students will receive:

  • A travel scholarship from the University of Saskatchewan
  • A montly stipend from the China Scholarship Council
  • Subsidized accommodation
  • Free medical insurance

Eligibility

CLIC programs are available to all students at the U of S. CLIC funding for participants is available to Canadian citizens who are full-time students at the University of Saskatchewan or at one of the other CLIC member universities in Canada. Students who are already receiving funding from the Chinese Scholarship Council are not eligible for CLIC support.

What can I do?

Exchange locations

U of S students can apply to four Chinese institutions through CLIC. These are:

  • Beijing Normal University (BNU)
    • classes offered for example in languages, cultural studies, geography, fine arts, history and chemistry
  • Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT)
    • classes offered for example in physics, computer science and economics
  • Peking University
    • classes offered particularly in economics

Doing Business in China, Nankai University in Tianjin

The Belt and Road Initiative: China's Economic Development, Nankai University in Tianjin

Entrepreneurship in China, Zhejiang University - School of Management in Hangzhou

International Development: Education, East China Normal University in Shanghai

Summer Law (approved for law students only). China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing

Experential Health Seminar, Fudan University, Shanghai

Applying

STUDENT EXCHANGE:

  • Apply to the U of S Student Exchange Program through the International Student and Study Abroad Centre and follow the U of S application process and deadlines.
  • Once you have been formally approved to one of the above CLIC institutions, you will be able to formalize your CLIC funding application. Students who don't get selected to go to one of the CLIC institutions must cancel their CLIC funding application.      
  • Apply for a Chinese visa. 

SUMMER PROGRAMS:

Follow the Application Procedure for your CLIC summer program. The steps may vary depending on the program. 

  • Once you find a CLIC summer program that you like, discuss it with ISSAC to see if it has been approved for U of S credit. If not, you may also discuss your program of choice with your Academic Advisor to determine if it could be approved for transfer credit.
  • Click HERE  to apply (NOTE: CLIC applicants submit only outgoing forms #1 and #2). Apply by Ferbuary 1 2020.
  • ISSAC will contact you once your form #1 has been reviewed. You will then be able to submit your form #2.
  • If you are participating in a program offered through another Canadian CLIC institution, submit an application also to them through the CLIC website. (this is only applicable to certain programs if so stated under Application Procedure on the CLIC website).
  • Submit your funding application to the China Scholarship Council by their application deadline (March). Please note that you must first create an account to access the funding application.
  • Apply to your host university in China.
  • Apply for a Chinese visa.

You will need to provide the following documentation with your CLIC funding application:

  • Passport photo
  • Confirmation of Enrolment (available through PAWS)
  • Official transcript
  • Study plan
  • One recommendation letter from the U of S (provided by ISSAC)
  • Physical examination record if your stay is longer than 6 months
