Number offeredVaries
EligibilityThe ESL Bursary for International Students is a support program for international graduate students who would like to strengthen their English language skills by taking a course offered through The Language Centre.

Note: ESL bursaries are not intended to be used by students who have been admitted conditionally and must satisfy a language requirement. These bursaries will also not be awarded to students who were exempted from the language requirements upon admission to the university.

ESL bursaries will be available for the following courses:
  1. Pronunciation
  2. Spoken English (general speaking and listening skills)
  3. Effective Writing and Grammar (reading or general writing and grammar skills)
  4. Graduate-Level Writing
For current information on each of the above course offerings, please see The Language Centre website.

There are two eligibility criteria used in awarding a student an ESL Bursary
  1. You must have met the minimum English proficiency requirements at the University of Saskatchewan.
  2. Your graduate supervisor or Graduate Chair must recommend that you take an ESL class.
There are a limited number of bursaries available for students. If there are more qualified students than the number of bursaries available, priority will be given to Ph. D. students and to those students who have not received a bursary in a previous term.
ApplyThe following must be completed by the deadline posted below.
  1. Fill out the online application form found on the ESL Bursary Application website.
  2. After you submit the online application, your graduate supervisor or graduate chair will be notified by email to complete their portion of the online application form.
Note: It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the graduate supervisor or graduate chair completes his portion by the deadline. Any application that does not have the corresponding portion completed by the graduate supervisor/graduate chair will be considered to be incomplete and will be discarded.

All students that are successful in the ESL Bursary program selection, as well as the graduate supervisor or graduate chair, will be notified by email with further instructions.

Students who receive an ESL Bursary will be expected to:
  1. Pay a non-refundable administration fee of $25.00 to The Language Centre.
  2. Take a short placement test at The Language Centre to ensure you are placed in the appropriate level and class.
  3. Maintain full-time registration in your graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan throughout the duration of the ESL class.
