ESL Bursary for International Students (CGPS)

Value: Varies depending on classes
Number offered: Varies
Eligibility:

The ESL Bursary for International Students is a support program for international students who are registered in a full-time graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan and who would like to strengthen their English language skills by taking a course offered through The Language Centre.

Note: ESL bursaries are not intended to be used by students who have been admitted conditionally and must satisfy a language requirement, or who have taken any of the English for Academic Purposes courses (EAP 40/EAP 50/EAP 60). As well, these bursaries will not be awarded to students who were exempted from the language requirements upon admission to the university.

ESL bursaries will be available for the following courses:

  1. Academic Writing
  2. Advanced Spoken English
  3. Graduate Writing

For current information on each of the above course offerings, please visit The Language Centre website.

There are two eligibility criteria used in awarding a student an ESL Bursary

  1. You must have met the minimum English proficiency requirements at the University of Saskatchewan.
  2. Your graduate supervisor or Graduate Chair must recommend that you take an ESL class.

There are a limited number of bursaries available for students. If there are more qualified students than the number of bursaries available, priority will be given to Ph. D. students and to those students who have not received a bursary in a previous term.

Apply:

To apply for this bursary, complete Sections I-IV of the online application form.

The applicant’s supervisor or Graduate Chair must complete the Recommendation by Applicant’s Supervisor or Graduate Chair form, which the student attaches to their application before submitting.

Incomplete applications will not be considered for the competition.

Students who receive an ESL Bursary will be expected to:

  • Pay a non-refundable administration fee of $25.00 to The Language Centre.
  • Maintain full-time registration in your graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan throughout the duration of the ESL class.
  • Attend the ESL class regularly and complete all assignments.

The ESL Bursary will only be available to you during the term that you applied and cannot be carried forward into another term. You will need to re-apply for another bursary by one of the application deadlines.

If you have any questions, contact us at gradstudies.awards@usask.ca.

Deadline: The call for applications for this bursary will go out at the beginning of the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms.
