USask Student Travel Award

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are participating in a conference (virtually or in-person), traveling outside of Saskatchewan to obtain a visa or study permit to study abroad, competition, or extra-curricular (not for credit) activities off-campus in Canada or abroad. Please note that if you are planning to participate in an academic study abroad program, you should apply for the Global Engagement Scholarship instead.

Applications must be submitted no later than one month before the start date of the planned activity, except for trips to obtain a visa or study permit to study abroad. All applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and only successful applicants will be communicated to. Students are eligible to receive only one Student Travel Award every 12 months. Please read the Terms and Conditions in the application portal for more information.

 For virtual conference:

  • A student can submit more than one application but reimbursement will be for relevant payments made, up to a total and maximum amount of $550 a year.
  • Proof of relevant payment(s) made by student MUST be submitted together with the application.
  • A graduate student MUST present at a virtual conference to be eligible for the award.

Global Engagement Scholarships

Would you like to gain international experience as a USask student? Undergraduate and graduate USask students are eligible for a $1000 Global Engagement Scholarship to help offset costs related to studying abroad. Eligibility criteria include:

  • Students must be enrolled in a degree program before and during travel.
  • Only academic study abroad programs and activities will be considered.
  • Undergraduate students must receive USask or transfer credit from their study abroad experience.
  • Graduate students must demonstrate that the activities have significant learning outcomes beneficial to their studies, e.g. research abroad. 
  • Students are eligible for one scholarship per academic year.
  • Scholarships are not granted retroactively.
  • Scholarships will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible students until funds for the year have been exhausted.
  • Maximum duration of travel is one academic year.

All USask students who have been nominated to go on Student Exchange are automatically eligible to apply for a Global Engagement Scholarship. Please, submit your application before your departure. You may apply for the scholarship as soon as you have been nominated. 

Virtual Mobility
Students who are interested in taking academic online programs.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be participating in an online program offered by one of USask’s bilateral exchange partners as either a visiting student (on a Letter of Permission) or a bilateral exchange student.
  • Students must be able to provide proof of expenses incurred relating to participation in the program and will be reimbursed up to $500 for costs incurred:
    • Registration fees
    • Tuition
  • Coursework must be approved for transfer credit, whether through a Letter of Permission or Letter of Course Credit Confirmation.

USask Global Engagement in the Virtual Classroom
Students registered in courses that meet the following criteria can qualify for up to $500 towards their USask tuition and fees:

  • The course is a credit course with registration at the University of Saskatchewan
  • The course engages USask students online with students from one or more institutions outside of Canada
  • The course curriculum is co-developed by instructors from two or more institutions

Gail Appel Global Citizenship Award - This award is designed to recognize one USask student enrolled in any college for a high academic achievement while exemplifying the qualities of global citizenship within or outside the university. The value of this annual award is $1,000.

Agriculture and Bioresources

The Gillian Hughes Memorial Travel Fellowship: To financially assist upper-year undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture specializing in an area of plant sciences to study abroad for at least one term at an established university in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere in Europe.

Go Global Awards (Hanlon Centre): The Hanlon Centre offers Bursaries, Awards, and "GoGlobal Student Subsidies" to help Edwards students participate in international business education and experiential learning opportunities. These include:

Hanlon Centre for International Business Studies Bursary

  • 3 Awards valued at $1000 each
  • Eligible students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement and interest in pursuing an international business opportunity (including study abroad). 

Gary Entwistle and Fred Phillips Travel for Study Abroad Award

  • 1 Award covering all expenses associated with studying abroad.
  • Eligible students must demonstrate leadership and character, and plan to pursue study abroad.
